Basic dental care =)

Hello guys! ;)

Ok today I would like to share some facts that you guys might not know before.
Am pretty sure that everyone brush their teeth. Ok bagus! But do you think with just brushing your teeth is more than enough?
Haaa the fact is no! It isn't enough.
Actually brushing our teeth will only clean up 65% of the teeth's surface. How it is so?
Ok lemme explain this simple concept to you.

Our teeth basically have 5 surfaces. Ok so the one dekat surface atas we'll call it incisal or occusal, depending to the type of teeth. Incisal is for gigi depan while occulusal is for gigi belakang. Incisal is for 3 gigi pertama from the midline, which are from the central incisor up to the canine. This applies to both left and right teeth.
Ok hold on jangan pening!

As for an adult, usually we'll have about 28-32 tooth. The no. of tooth varies from one person to another. Ok everyone pegi standup in front of the mirror and observe your teeth.

Basically we have midline yang separate the left side of the teeth from the right side of the teeth. And this number of teeth is equivalent on both side and on both jaw. Midline tu supposed to be at the same line with your nose line. So now kte focus to just one side of our teeth, left site for instance. So starting from the midline, there'll be Central Incisor. I dono what's central incisor in malay. ahah. But gigi kapak usually we call em . Then next to Central Incisor, there'll be Lateral Insicor. After that, we have Canine or known as gigi taring. So these three types of teeth are basically the anterior teeth@ incisors. So the term incisal surface will be applied on the left canine, left lateral incisor, left central incisor, right central incisor, right lateral incisor and right canine. This applies to both jaw.

Thus, this means that the posterior teeth is the teeth which aren't included in the anterior teeth. They are the ( starting next from the canine) First Premolar, Second Premolar, First Molar, Second Molar and Third Molar@ Wisdom Tooth. But basically Wisdom Tooth tak semestinya erupt. Some people yang xde langsung wisdom tooth. Some people ade complete 4 wisdom tooth. While some people ade satu, dua or tiga. So, it varies depending on the individual.

So now we're done with introduction of the teeth. hee

Back to the surface of the teeth, occlusal applies to the posterior teeth's surface. This occlusal surface is realllyyyyy reallyyyyy important for us in grinding our food. Anterior teeth functions mostly aesthetically ( for appearance ) .

Ok tu baru habis explain pasal satu surface ==!

Ade four more surfaces, which are distal, mesial, buccal and palatal/lingual.

Distal means away from midline. So kirenye ni surface untuk gigi kte yang jauh daripada midline. Mesial pulak vice versa. Means mesial ni surface untuk gigi kte yang palingggg dekat dengan midline.

Buccal pulak surface gigi yang menghadap pipi or our lips while palatal/ lingual is surface yang menhadap ke belah dalam gigi. Okay palatal surface is not equal to lingual ye. Palatal is for maxillary teeth ( teeth at the upper jaw). It is called palatal because surface tu menghadap our palate. Palate tu hard surface yang dekat atas tongue tu. We cn reach it by our tongue. Okay kalau confusing jugak just google it. hehe. Lingual pulak applies for the mandibular teeth ( teeth at the lower jaw). Lingual ni untuk surface yang menghadap tongue.

Fuhh, semput explain. Ok back to the real main issue. Hehe.

So, if we only brush our teeth, that's mean we are only cleaning up 3 over 5 surfaces. Can you guess what surfaces are they?
Yes, we are just cleaning the occlusal/ incisal, buccal & palatal/lingual surfaces if we just brush our teeth.
How about the other 2 surfaces??

This is the problems!
The mesial and distal surface aren't being clean up by you!
And unfortunately this will cause your food debris to stick on the tiny surfaces!
And hey! Your toothbrush can't reach this surface. Seriouslyy!
So instead of using the interdental brush ( the lil toothbrush which is being used by those who's wearing braces to clean up the lil spaces ) ,
you HAVE TO floss your teeth =)

( Am currently using this floss. hee )
Flossing is actually NOT AN OPTION. It's a MUST, just like brushing the teeth because by flossing, it will cleans up 35% of your tooth surface. Hee.
Basically there's like a few of us who floss their teeth but it's never too late to floss!
There are few types of dental floss that you can get in the pharmacy. And for those who's wearing braces, don't worry! Because you guys have a special floss :)
( Okay now I know I sounded as if am a dental product's promoter ==! )

Tak reti how to floss? Don't worry, just come to my clinic and I'll show you how :P hehehe okay just search for a flossing video in the youtube. There are plenty of them. No worries!
Tak pun, just google it and they will give you the instruction :) And yeah, no need to worry about whether ur gums will bleed or not after you floss them. If you floss em in the right way, it won't bleed. But, I guess it's normal if it bleeds during ur first trial. It won't bleed any longer after that :)

So, I guess that's all for today's dental info. Just appreciate your every single tooth because one single tooth is actually veryyyyy important and crucial in our life.
Tak caye?
Ok, try cabut your first molar, second molar or any posterior teeth. U'll be ageing moreee faster. Serious tak tipu! This is included in my ITD syllabus okay! ( Read: ITD is one of my subjects. Hehe ).

With that, I thankyou ;)
